About Kambo

Kambo is the secretion of one of the largest living frogs, scientifically known as Phyllomedusa bicolor. This frog resides in the northern Amazon, and indigenous tribes refer to it as Kambo, Kampu, or Sapo.

Traditionally, Kambo was primarily used as medicine to treat a condition known as Panema, which can be loosely translated as the “sickness of the unsuccessful hunter.” When a hunter experienced prolonged failure, negative emotions would accumulate, leading to a loss of energy and confidence, as well as apathy, laziness, and a lack of motivation. Today, this could be compared to what we call “burnout.”

Kambo is highly effective at releasing these toxic energies, restoring vitality, and bringing success back into one’s life.

Men traditionally used Kambo to enhance their sexual attractiveness and improve their hunting abilities, often gaining intuitive and psychic skills in the process.

My Story

“When I first received Kambo from Dona Francisca in Norway in 2011, I was sick, full of trauma, suffering from candidiasis, had been single for seven years, and was living in poverty. My first experience with Kambo was a gentle introduction, but during the second session, a significant trauma that had been blocking my relationships surfaced. That same day, a woman came into my life. My body also began to heal from long-standing candidiasis, and the spirit of Kambo guided me into a deeper healing process, which later opened the path to abundance.

In 2016, I completed a certified course that provided a basic foundation, but it did not include everything necessary for complete safety or a deeper connection to traditional indigenous practices. I began exploring this aspect in 2017, when I first visited the Amazon. Now, I visit the region several times a year and continue to learn new things and different application styles. I have worked with the Matses, Huni Kui, Noke Koi, Shawadawa, Shanenawa, and Yawanawa tribes. Kambo continues to guide me deeper as I explore the possibilities it offers. I promote the ancient approach, where Kambo served as a hunter’s medicine, and I strive to apply the same principles here. With over 11,000 applications of Kambo, I have gained extensive experience, and working with Kambo medicine has become my life’s mission.”

Useage

Kambo is a legal natural medicine, but the term ‘medicine’ should not be confused with ‘drug’ and should not be seen as a substitute for medical care.

Kambo acts very intensely to release accumulated toxins—both physical and mental, as well as emotional. It also helps remove emotional blocks, negative thought patterns, and addictions. As a result, our immune system is strengthened, allowing the body to better cope with diseases, especially when supported by a healthy diet and sufficient exercise.

In the modern world, Kambo is used to improve immunity, detoxify the body, increase energy, and achieve a positive state of mind.

Kambo contains a wide range of peptides that significantly contribute to restoring balance in the body. One of these peptides, dermorphin, is up to 40 times stronger than morphine and effectively helps with chronic pain.

Application

If you come across videos online showing people in the Amazon going through intense processes during Kambo application, it does not mean you will experience the same here. In the Amazon, fresh and very potent Kambo is often used in larger quantities with multiple points.

Here, some practitioners apply 8-10 points to new clients right away, which can be very dangerous and, even in the best case, can lead to a very uncomfortable experience.

On the other hand, we start with one point and gradually add more depending on the course of the application, usually not exceeding three points during the first application.

How to Prepare

  • Kambo is applied on an empty stomach, meaning that nothing should be consumed for at least 8 hours beforehand. At the beginning of the session, a short consultation takes place (for private applications).

  • Next, you should drink a small amount of water or traditional Caixuma, about 0.7 to 1 liter. Meanwhile, small points are burned onto the skin using a thin stick. These points leave faint scars after healing, which may form part of different patterns and can be reused (except for the points on the ears, where scars do not remain). The burning sensation is almost painless, and the points eventually become barely noticeable over time.

  • During the first application, typically only one point is used. Shortly after the application, you will feel heat throughout the body, heart palpitations, and temporary facial swelling, which usually subsides within 30 to 120 minutes, though occasionally it may last longer.

  • Additional points are then added until purging occurs, after which nausea dissipates, and a sense of relaxation, joy, calmness, emptiness, and sometimes even euphoria follows. With repeated sessions, discomfort usually diminishes. Sometimes fatigue may occur after the process.

  • After about 20 to 30 minutes, the procedure is finished, followed by relaxation. Ideally, the remainder of the day should be spent resting; the following day, you may feel weakness, especially after the first applications. By the third day, a surge of new energy and strength usually arrives. If energy does not return, it indicates a greater level of stress or “panema” in the body, and further sessions are recommended until energy is restored. This typically occurs after about 3 applications.

Ceremony

This is more of a Western style approach to working with Kambo medicine, in the form of an experiential, group session. While in the Amazon the best experience is in the silence of nature with the sounds of birds and sometimes one song from an indigenous guide, such an environment could feel rather stressful in our setting. Here, it is important to create a good atmosphere, introduce the process, and create a safe space where we can relax into the experience.

At the beginning, we introduce ourselves, share intentions, do a short meditation, and there is an option to use gentle Rapé for calming. Then, you will learn everything necessary to ensure the application is as effective as possible and receive recommendations on how to behave during the process. After drinking water and preparing the points, the application itself will take place, lasting approximately one hour. With the support of traditional songs and the help of assistants, we will guide you safely through the entire process.

Afterwards, there is the option to try Sananga – eye drops from the Amazon, which help to cleanse any remaining nausea. Following that, there is time for relaxation, and once this is completed, we will share our experiences of the evening over soup, sometimes chatting late into the night. 😊

My Background

“I am the first certified Kambo practitioner in the Czech Republic (certification with IAKP, but I am no longer a member. IAKP is the International Association of Kambo Practitioners).

In 2011, I first encountered Kambo medicine in Norway through the legendary Dona Franciska (Brazil).

In 2016, I completed a certified course with IAKP, and in 2018, another course in Peru with the Matses tribe, focused on meeting the Kambo frog and the “Sapo” application style. In 2020, I learned the ancient method of working with Kambo in powder form in Brazil.

I am not a shaman; I am a Kambo practitioner who uses my abilities gained from 18 years of practice working with the body, having treated over 10,000 clients (including Kambo clients).

I am mainly focused on harmonizing the nervous system and releasing everything that burdens it so that we can feel better.

Currently, I am intensely focused on working with Kambo medicine and conducting bodywork courses where I share methods that complement the effects of Kambo medicine.”

Testimonials

"Vojta, I would like to share my experience with the thyroid and Kambo. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was told that I wouldn't manage without medication. I have been doing Kambo for almost two years, and recently I had a session focused on healing the thyroid. It was quite a challenge, but according to the latest results, my levels are in order, even though doctors said this wouldn't be possible without medication. Viva Kambo and thank you for being my guide! " 👍🐸

– Anička L.

Viva Kambo! The cancerous form in the prostate has disappeared, and the values are at zero, which even surprised the doctors. (Kambo does not treat cancer, but it detoxifies and strengthens the immune system, which then helps the body return to balance. This result was achieved after approximately three sessions.)

– Lukáš Z.

"Viva Kambo! This frog is a miracle for me! It helped me recover from years of suffering with undiagnosed Lyme disease. It all started with tinnitus, which gradually led to unbearable headaches, brain fog, and worsened vision in my right eye. I struggled with floaters, pain behind the eye, and exhaustion. Knee pain, muscle issues, and overall weakness eventually led to depression. Thanks to Kambo, I was able to find my way back to health."

– Michaela S.

Should I fast?

The fast should be only 8 hours before the application. Longer fasts before the application are not recommended; the maximum we can fast is 3-4 days.

Should I follow a diet before the ceremony?

Indigenous tribes believe that the diet is not only for physical cleansing, but that the Kambo spirit sees it as a sign that we are taking the process seriously, which allows it to work deeper than if we approach it casually.

However, this does not mean that the diet is absolutely necessary. For example, if an opportunity for Kambo arises unexpectedly, it’s not a problem if you haven’t followed the diet beforehand. It’s more important to follow it afterward.

Before the ceremony, it’s important to avoid alcohol for 2 days and refrain from recreational drugs.

It’s also not advisable to drink too much water.

The ideal approach is to have Kambo on an empty stomach, or not to eat for 8 hours. However, if necessary, you can have a banana, rice milk, fruit juice, or clear broth. It’s not essential to skip food if it’s difficult for you to handle.

What is the Ideal Diet to Follow?

I Recommend an Amazonian Vegan Diet. Focus on consuming fruits, vegetables, potatoes, rice, and legumes. Keep the meals low in fat and avoid using oil. This simple and clean diet helps prepare your body for the Kambo ceremony and enhances its benefits.

How Much Water Should I Drink Before the Start?

Some traditions suggest drinking up to 3 liters of water. However, the goal is to drink enough to fill your stomach without feeling sick from the water itself. This is usually between 0.5 liters and 1.2 liters.

To minimize the rare risk of hyponatremia (brain swelling due to mineral depletion), we do not provide only plain water immediately before the application. Instead, we use traditional Caixuma made from manioc or electrolyte solutions, which are 100% safe even in cases where hyponatremia might be a concern.

How Long Does the Ceremony Last?

A private session, including relaxation, lasts approximately 2 hours. A group session can take up to 5 hours, depending on the length of sharing during the soup time.

Will I feel nauseous or vomit?

Not everyone vomits. Vomiting is not necessary, but it can bring relief. The cleansing process can happen in the bathroom, or the nausea may subside on its own within 15 minutes. If not, the Kambo will be removed, the top of the head will be rinsed with cold water, and Sananga drops may be used for additional relief.

If you are afraid of vomiting, the application can be adjusted to prevent it from happening.

How are the Kambo points applied to the body and does it hurt?

I recommend doing the first three applications traditionally on the shoulder or leg. If someone later wants to work with specific points, this option is available.

The burning process itself is barely noticeable. After the process, you might feel a mild stinging sensation that can last for a few hours, but it’s nothing that can’t be managed.

Will I have scars after the application?

It depends on the skin type and the level of sun exposure. For some people, the scars heal completely and are not visible, while for others, they may remain slightly visible. Over time, they tend to resemble more of a pigment spot. I try to create patterns that look aesthetically pleasing and natural.

Is there anything I should do mentally?

Prepare a positive intention that does not include the desire to get rid of something. For example, instead of saying “I want to get rid of illness,” say “I want health.” This makes the process smoother and less challenging. It is important to approach the process with love, as taught by Dona Francisca. Before the application, you will receive specific instructions.

Is Kambo safe?

Kambo is very safe when basic rules are followed and the application is performed by an experienced practitioner. Contraindications are set primarily for the safety of both the practitioner and the client. We do not recommend applications from self-taught practitioners, as they often do not know how to proceed in the case of complications.

Can Kambo have any side effects?

There are no known side effects or allergic reactions.

Can I attend the ceremony if I am taking medication or have health issues?

Most medications, including antidepressants, are not contraindicated. On the contrary, after 3 sessions, it may be possible to gradually discontinue the medications.

How will I feel after the ceremony?

Feelings after the ceremony are individual. Usually, relief and calmness follow. Energy may appear immediately, the next day, or even on the third day. If you don’t feel any effect, it’s recommended to repeat the application.

How long does it take for the body to fully recover?

In most cases, the body is recovered by the second day, and the third day is usually the best.

Are there any instructions after Kambo ceremony?

It is recommended to:

  • Improve your diet
  • Incorporate movement, walks, and cold exposure
  • Spend less time on social media
  • Meditate and work on your lifestyle

Kambo is a tool for navigating towards a clean and healthy life. The medicine will show you what needs to be changed, but the action is up to you.

How Does Kambo Work?

Kambo works on several levels:

  • Peptides: Help eliminate pathogens, improve mood, and suppress pain.
  • Energetic cleansing: Releases stress and promotes emotional balance.
  • Detoxification: The body expels toxic substances.

This combination of effects leads to a rapid boost of the immune system and natural healing.

Is Kambo addictive?

Kambo is not addictive because its application requires willpower and overcoming discomfort.

Is it legal?

Kambo is legal in most countries. In Brazil, marketing is restricted to protect indigenous rights.

Can Kambo help with mental health issues?

Yes, for example, with depression, the effects are often visible after just 3 applications.

Can I experience spiritual experiences during the ceremony?

Visions rarely occur, but a sense of sensory clarity, positive mood, and deep calm are common.
